An invitation to pray on Holy Saturday

Holy [Silent] Saturday is the Saturday between Good Friday and Easter which always seems to be the forgotten piece of Holy Week.  In truth, the Saturday energy is at least as important as the preceding days. It represents the seventh day of creation ~ a time when the need for choice and action has come to an end.

What remains is the challenge of resting quietly at the tomb in full faith that the resurrection is guaranteed.  We may try to rush directly from the painful drama of Good Friday to the joyful fulfillment of Easter. Still, the spiritual realization that has been the purpose of our entire Lenten process requires one final step of surrender.

Holy Saturday is not a day for answers.  It is a threshold day ~ a day that lies between ~ and so resists any easy certainty.  This day “between” darkness and light is a place many of us find ourselves more often than we’d like to admit.

As a part of your Holy Week observance, plan now to join us as we keep vigil with Christ on Holy Saturday, April 16, on the sacred grounds of Starrette Farm Retreat, Statesville, NC.  Come and depart as you are able.  A host will be there to greet you, answer your questions and provide a vigil prayer guide to support your keeping vigil with Jesus. Take your time. Allow the Spirit to move more deeply within you through the silence, scriptures, readings, and reflection questions. Prayerfully watch, wait, and pray with Christ through the darkness of this day so that together we can celebrate the joy of the resurrection.
